Skincare in your 40s!


Hey friends! Welcome back! Today we're continuing the 'skin care in your..' series! Let's discuss skincare in your 40s, what to expect, and how to take care of your skin as we reach 40(+) years of age!!



  

You may not know this but your 40s is the age of change! Your skin makes drastic changes and it is up to you to take care of it. In your 40s, it is important to take care of your skin and see your Dermatologist and Skin Therapist regularly.. also very important to establish a skin care routine and take care of your skin at home. The most significant thing you will notice is fine lines and wrinkles forming, dry/dehydrated skin, dark spots, or loss of elasticity.

Fine lines /Crows Feet: As we age, our Hyaluronic Acid (hydration in our skin) level starts to drop and the skin around the eyes start to look dry and crepey. The skin around the eyes is the thinnest and it is important, now than EVER.. to use eye cream.  I suggest one with Retinol because it will help to hydrate the skin and tighten the skin around the eyes. Shop this retinol eye cream here

Collagen and elastin production slows down: As we mature, the collagen and elastin production slows down. This what keeps our skin plump and free of wrinkles.. when it starts to break down our skin gets loose and aging becomes more noticeable. This may result in your PORE SIZE starting to look more apparent. So it is important to exfoliate the skin and keep your pores clean and free from dead skin build up! Hyaluronic Acids levels drop!: In your 40s, you may experience more dry skin! The hyaluronic acid level in your skin drops and the top layer of your skin may start to feel tight and dry. I'm TURNING 40 this year, what should I do?

No doubt about it a lot of changes happen in your 40s! It is important now than ever to take care of your skin. We talked about adding Retinol in your skin care routine in your 30s.. but now it is really important in your 40s! Invest in Vitamin A/Retinol because it is great for preventing and treating fine lines and wrinkles. It also helps to boost your collagen production. Here are 4 things you should do for your skin in your 40s!

In your 40s, I would also recommend a neck cream. The Neck is a close second part of our body to start aging. Eyes are first.. but you know that already because I always mention it. Don't forget about your neck when you are washing and moisturizing your face. To take it a step further, I recommend applying a neck cream. Remember to apply it in an upward motion with upward strokes! 👐

Cleanse, Cleanse, Cleanse! It is very important to keep the skin clean and free from impurities that can cause skin aging. I would suggest a Glycolic face wash! This will help to gently exfoliate your skin and allow new fresh skin cells to appear to the surface. So effective, wash.. rinse, done! Shop Glycolic Face wash here! (this is my new favorite!)


FACIALS! I really, really, really, really recommend facials as we start to mature. Skin care treatments help to keep the skin youthful and helps to encourage skin cell turnover, nourishes your skin cells, and helps to boost collagen productions, and tons more! I recommend a facial every 4-6 weeks.


You are what you eat! As we mature, it is super important to take a look at our diet. I'm not a dietitian of course, but our skin works from the inside out. What we eat will show in our skin. I recommend a healthy rich diet packed with hydrating whole foods, low processed foods, and high in antioxidants. Like, greek yogurt, blueberries (really high in antioxidants), almonds (high in Vitamin E), Kale, and Spinach (High in Vitamin A). Now is the time to be sure to be eating your veggies and taking your vitamins. This will help your skin and (of course your body) in the long run!!

As we mature, it is important to really start to invest in ourselves. Take care of your body and of course your skin.
