Hey friends! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. Today I’m sharing how you can treat mature skin. I’ve received a few request to talk about mature skin on the blog so today I’m excited to address the topic today.

The main characteristics of mature skin are lost of elasticity, firmness, dullness, and dry skin at the surface. The texture of our skin starts to change and gets more fragile as we get older. So it is very important to take good care of the skin as we mature.

Why do we get fine lines/wrinkles as we age? Wrinkles are creases, folds, or dips in the skin. Naturally we all have a few lines in our skin due to facial expressions, like smiling. However, as the skin ages, key components such as firmness, elasticity, and collagen start to diminish leaving our skin easier to break down and show the appearance of  imperfections such as fine lines/wrinkles. The skin gets thinner, drier, and less able to protect itself from damage. Exposure to UV/UB Rays can also contribute to wrinkles as well. (Click here to visit my blog post about sun protection)

How do you treat mature skin? First it important to recognize your skin type. Does your skin feel more dry, oily, or a little bit of both. Most times as the skin matures it gets more dry, this is why fine lines and wrinkles become more visible. It’s best to hydrate and nourish the skin.

The biggest treatment that helps with aging concerns are Vitamin A/Retinoids that helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles and pigmentation. It does this by increasing the production of collagen in said area.

1. Glycolic Acid will be your best friend. Glycolic acid helps to exfoliate and resurface the skin. This will help to get rid of the age spots, aging, dullness, and fine lines and wrinkles. I 100% recommend the Peter Thomas Roth Anti Aging cleanser. It contains ingredients that help to gently exfoliate the skin and provide a beautiful, healthy, youthful glow. Shop here!

2. Face Oils are super important to include in your skin care routine. Theywill help to hydrate, plump, and nourish your skin. Especially at night! I recommend the Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil. It is a powerful retinol, night oil that helps the reduce the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles, pores, and helps to improve the overall skin tone. Shop here!

Here area few more facial oils that I recommend! I love facial oils and recommend them to everyone, but they are especially effective for mature skin:

Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Antioxidant Face Oil - Linked here!
Tarte Maracuja Oil - Linked here!

3. Anti-aging eye cream! Recently I did a full blog post on the importance of eye cream. Click here, if you want to visit that post.  As we mature, the skin around our eyes gets really thin and is easily able to show fine lines/wrinkles, crows feet, dark circles, and a host of other skin concerns. Eye cream address those concerns. I recommend the Murad Renewing Eye Cream it’s so perfect for the skin around mature eyes. It address fine lines/wrinkles at the source by hydrating and plumping the eye area. It feels luxurious and so creamy in texture. Shop here!

4. Neck cream is a nice added bonus to one with mature skin! The neck and chest area is the second common place you may start to notice aging. It is because we forget to take care of that area of skin.  It is important to apply products to our neck and chest area as well as our face. Neck cream will keep that area of the skin hydrated and looking firm and youthful! I recommend the Tarte Maracuja Neck Treatment. It targets the skin of the neck and décolleté with it’s powerful ingredient: Maracuja oil. It’s so good for your skin because it provides a good amount of hydration. Shop here!

5. Lastly, I’m going to recommend a toner. I believe toner is important for everyone because it gently exfoliates the skin and allows the rest of the products you apply after to work much more effective. BHA toner is really good at attacking fine lines and wrinkles by increasing your skin care turnover. This will help to keep your skin looking smooth and youthful. Here is my recommendation for a toner that will be beneficial to mature skin: Paula’s Choice Skin 2% BHA Lotion, it is a leave on exfoliant that helps to smooth wrinkles while brightening and even out skin tone. Amazing stuff!!! - Shop here! Also visit my blog post ALL about Toner, click here!
