Q: How important is it to wash or put anything on your face for that matter...

A: It’s so important to wash your face to get rid of dirt, grime, makeup, dead skin cells, etc. If you don’t wash your face or take care of it with skin care products it can lead to skin irritations such as acne, black heads, dry patches, itchiness, redness, etc.

Q: What products can you use to increase collagen production? 

A: Retinol/Vitamin A is the best over the counter skin care ingredient that helps to produce collagen in the skin and also to increase skin cell turnover. You can also increase collagen production by including some specific food in your diet such as: kale, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli. Also, increasing your Vitamin C intake is all essential. Vitamin C increases the production of Collagen. Taking a supplement of collagen and/or vitamin c can be really help boost collagen in the skin.

Q: What products are best to use when you have combo&acne skin that changes with seasons?

A: Great question! Most people skin changes with seasons so it’s important to customize your skin care routine to what you need during that time. The best way to do this is changing up a few things at night. So in the winter if your skin is more dry, try added a night cream/facial oil. In the summer if your skin is more oily, be sure to add a oil free moisturizer and mattifying facial toner. The biggest thing you want to do is keep your skin as balanced as possible. 

Here are my recommendations:

This night time moisturizer is so good. It’s NEW formula helps to hydrate fine lines/wrinkles so it would address your aging concerns, firm the skin, brighten, and nourish your skin as you sleep. 

Face Oil: Sunday Riley Luna Retinol Sleeping Night Oil - Shop here! I love this night oil because it’s address so many concerns in one product.. plus it feels so good and hydrating to the skin. This will make the skin look and feel plump, improve the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles, tighten pores, and overall makes the skin look more even. I’ve been using it every night for about 2 months! 

You do not have to use all products, these are just some of my favs that I  would recommend and I think would address your concerns. Start with one and see how it works and go from there. I would personally start with the Face oil because it’s my favorite. The Olehendriksen moisturizer is also amazing if you need a new day cream. 


Q: Should you use your hands for face washing or a tool?

A: Which ever you prefer that works best for your skin/skin care routine. Tools such as cleansing brushes help to cleanse the skin a little more effective by getting ride of dirt, grime, and makeup out of pores and tough areas like around the nose. So if you wear makeup daily and have difficulty removing it all then a cleansing brush may be helpful. It gently exfoliates the skin as your are cleansing. It’s also nice because most brushes are waterproof so they could be used in the shower. This will cut your cleansing time in half and you can wash your face in the shower quickly. However, using just your hands or even a cleansing puff/wash cloth is just fine too. Just be sure to try you best to get every area of the face clean.

Q: What are moisturizing techniques/good products for black aging skin... cause black can crack?

A: You are absolutely right! If you’re not properly taking care of your skin, you will see signs of aging. If you are experiencing dry and aging skin then I would recommend a night cream. One that is super hydrating and can nourish the skin at night. Taking care of the skin at night really helps to repair it.

Both are a daily moisturizer that can be used a night to help improve the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles and help plump the skin. It promotes your skins strength so it fight against environmental stressors.

Q: What Toner Should I Use, I have oily skin?

A:   I recommend, the Clinique Clarifying Lotion in 3 (Shop here). It a great Toner for Oily skin as well as the Aveda Botanical Kinetics Toning Mist (shop here) if you would like a toner that sprays out. Both are amazing for oily skin! It’s best to use your toner after cleansing your skin but before applying moisturizer. 


Q: What is your current favorite cleanser & moisturizer?

A: My favorites are the Kate Somerville Exfolikate Cleansing Daily Foaming Wash (shop here) - so good! It smells good and feels good and removes all dirt, grime, and makeup without stripping the skin. It also AHA’s that help to gently resurface the skin leaving it bright, smooth, and even.  Also,  the Clinique Even Better Moisturizer SPF 20 (shop here) has been my favorite moisturizer for years. I love it because it hydrates the skin, addresses dark spots/pigmentation, and protects the skin from the sun.
